At Back For Your Future a variety of treatment options are used.

These include:

Manipulation (aka Adjustment).

This usually involves a specific thrust into a poorly working spinal segment or other joint. The force used to perform an adjustment is usually small but when applied very specifically this can have a profound effect on the adjusted joint, restoring normal mobility and reducing irritation to the surrounding nerves. There are many of styles of adjustment. The styles most commonly used in this clinic are 'Diversified' and 'Gonstead'. Both of these styles commonly produce a small 'pop' or 'click' that many people associate with chiropractic treatment. Other very low force adjusting styles are also used. These include 'Sacro-occipital technique (SOT)' and 'Activator'. With these adjusting methods 'pops and clicks' are less common, however good restoration of joint mobility and reduction of nerve irritation can still be achieved. The style of adjustment applied depends on many factors, including patient age, size, shape, specific condition requiring treatment and even patient preference.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Massage by hand or assisted through the use of instruments is regularly used to encourage soft tissue healing and the restoration of normal muscle tone. Muscle stretching and muscle relaxation techniques are also commonly found to be useful in the recovery process.

Myofascial Dry Needling

This is very similar to acupuncture; it involves the use of fine acupuncture needles. Needles are carefully inserted to trigger points (hyper-irritable areas in the muscles), leading to deactivation of the painful trigger point, allowing the muscles to relax and begin to repair themselves. Because the needles used are very fine, it is not uncommon for patients to be unaware that some needles have been applied. Myofascial dry needling does not appeal to some patients and will only ever be used if the individual is comfortable with this style of treatment. Alternative soft tissue treatments can be offered, achieving equally good results.

Rehabilitation

Following acute injuries and chronic conditions, timely patient involvement in rehabilitation exercise programs is often helpful. This rehabilitation is tailored specifically to address weaknesses in compromised soft tissues. Many patients find this stage of their care most rewarding as they begin to feel that they are regaining control of their body. Your chiropractor will strive to find the best approach to help achieve success in such an important stage of care.

Advice

Advice will be offered which is tailored to an individual's circumstances. This may include guidance on exercise, lifestyle, posture, and diet etc.
